Waduk Sermo

The Sermo Kulonprogo Reservoir is an irrigation dam that dams the Ngrancah River which was inaugurated by President Soeharto on November 20, 1996. The Sermo Reservoir was built at a cost of Rp22 billion. The construction of the Sermo Reservoir is carried out in two years and eight months.

Sermo Reservoir is a source of clean water for PDAMs and for irrigated water in rice fields in the Wates and surrounding areas. Besides being used as a source of drinking water and irrigation, Sermo Reservoir is also a place for training and rowing competitions.

Sermo Reservoir is one of the tourism and educational potentials in Kulonprogo, Yogyakarta. Moreover, the hills surrounding Sermo Reservoir make the scenery more beautiful. Not much different from the Jatiluhur Reservoir that can be seen from Mount Lembu.

Sermo Reservoir also has fishing facilities. Some tourists are very fond of the Sermo Reservoir because of the presence of "Red Devils" fish which is a predatory fish in the Sermo Reservoir. In addition, tourists can rent a tour boat to get around Sermo Reservoir while enjoying the hills of Menoreh.

One of the features of Sermo Reservoir can be seen at dusk. Not a few young people and photography enthusiasts are waiting for the afternoon until the sun sets in the Sermo Reservoir.

The area of the Sermo Reservoir is estimated to be around 157 hectares. Formerly the Sermo Reservoir area was a residential area. There are about 100 heads of families who were transmigrated to Bengkulu and seven heads of families to Riau to build the Sermo Reservoir.

The Dam with the Best Water Quality in Indonesia
Sermo Reservoir is claimed to be the best dam in Indonesia if measured from the quality of the water produced as a source of drinking water as well as irrigated rice fields. The reason is that the Semo Reservoir has very little sedation, especially the Sermo Reservoir surrounded by well-preserved forests in the Kulonprogo area.

Sermo Reservoir has an area of about 21.3 square kilometers. With this area, Sermo Reservoir can accommodate 21.9 million cubic meters. Much smaller than the capacity of the Jatiluhur Reservoir which reaches 3 billion cubic.

However, the existence of Sermo Reservoir is very useful for raw water, especially for Kulonprogo and Wates residents.

The best time to visit Sermo Reservoir is during the late afternoon. You can take pictures first at Kalibiru Nature Tourism in the afternoon then go down to Sermo Reservoir which is only about 4 kilometers from Kalibiru.

Bukit Pethu Substation
When taking pictures in Kalibiru, the background of Sermo Reservoir is one that cannot be separated. Besides Kalibiru, now tourists can also take a selfie and take pictures of Pethu Hill. The background of Sermo Reservoir is getting closer to this location.

Taman Munggur Substation
Besides Bukit Pethu, you can also take pictures with the background of Sermo Reservoir in Taman Munggur. Munggur Park is located in Klepu Hamlet, Kargowils Village, Kokap, Kulonprogo. The way to Taman Munggur is very easy, just follow the sign at the intersection before the Sermo Reservoir post.

Taman Munggur has a viewing post with the background of the Sermo Reservoir. These attractions include new tours around the Sermo Reservoir. Only opened in August 2016. Of course not many people know about the existence of this Munggur Park.

One of its advantages, Taman Munggur built two viewing posts with a more complete background, the Sermo Reservoir and the Menoreh hills. No doubt this is what makes Munggur Park superior compared to other viewing posts.

Taman Munggur operates or opens from 07.00 WIB in the morning and closes at 17.00 WIB.

Bumi Campsite Sermo Reservoir
Besides being a tourist spot, Sermo Reservoir is also used as a Scout camp. Some schools bring students to camp at the Sermo Kulonprogo Reservoir Campground.

The location of the Sermo Reservoir is located in Hargowilis Village, Kokap District, Kulonprogo Regency, Yogyakarta.

The way to the Sermo Reservoir can be reached from the center of Yogyakarta City in approximately 90 minutes. The distance between Sermo Reservoir and Yogyakarta City is estimated at 40 kilometers.

Sermo Reservoir is located west of the city of Yogyakarta. Sermo Reservoir is very close to Jalan Raya Wates, which is the southern route of the island of Java.

Sermo Reservoir is also very close to other tourist attractions such as Kaliburu Nature Tourism and Canting Mas Puncak Dipowono.

Besides being able to use the Wates route, you can also use the Godean route to Naggulan. But it will be very easy if you pass the Wates route because the road is relatively adequate for private vehicles. From Wates, the distance is only about 9 kilometers that can be reached within 20 minutes.
