James Milner Extends Contract at Liverpool Until 2022
Yogyakarta - James Milner is certain to remain with Liverpool until 2022 after agreeing to sign a new contract at Melwood on Friday.
The midfielder's contract, which was signed on a free transfer in the summer of 2015, will expire at the end of the 2019-20 season. But Milner has agreed to extend his engagement with the Anfield-based club with an additional two years.
"I feel fortunate to be playing for this club for four and a half years until now. It's great to be able to see how the club changes and develops, "Milner said.
"I always enjoy training every day, working with other players, managers and coaching staff, and being part of this football club."
To date, Milner has made 198 appearances for the Reds, scoring 25 goals and appearing in five finals including his European Cup victory in June in Madrid.
This season, he also became one of the key players who led Juergen Klopp's team to the top of the Premier League. Milner is also an important part for Liverpool to appear in the Champions League in a row in the last two seasons.
Nevertheless, the 33-year-old feels that he still has a lot to accomplish. With his new contract offer, he said he was happy and hoped to contribute more to the club.
"We discussed with the club and this is definitely the ideal for me, this is what I want to do that is play at the highest level as long as I can," Milner said. "Liverpool is an extraordinary place, and we are a very good football team and hopefully we can move forward."
